contains exclusive track
i dont think the content overall needs to be reviewed, its all classic abba and can all be found elsewhere EXCEPT for I AM THE CITY, this track is still ,as far as i know, not available anywhere else except on this album,(im not counting the COMPLETE STUDIO RECORDINGS box set,the purchase of which may necessitate a small mortgage) and i cant believe no other review has mentioned this. If you@re a fan , its the main reason to buy this album,and if your collecting all abba's recordings,it makes this essential. oh, and if you havent heard it the track is great, not one of their moving and meaningful ones but its fun,hypnotic and sparkly,;incredible arrangement and production, -i know thats kind of a given for abba- but - much more so than, for example something like YOU OWE ME ONE or even UNDER ATTACK. This was the last "new" track ever to be released (1993), its just wierd that its never turned up as a bonus track on any of the remastered original non compilation albums.

Born The Wrong Side of the Blanket
There are too many filler tracks on this album to make it a worthwhile purchase. Perversely, it's one of those tracks - Eagle - that means this collection gets two stars instead of just the one. Stick to "Gold", it's the one with all the cheesey disco on and is all you need.

Some unfamiliar things to enjoy...
Yes, we're all familiar to the nth degree with the work on "Abba Gold" - "Dancing Queen"; "Knowing Me Knowing You"; "Waterloo" and so on, and can no doubt sing them in our sleep. However, this "second volume" of Abba classics includes much material that many of us will not find as familiar, particularly if you're not a diehard fan and are just used to the mega-hits. There are the early minor UK chart hits here - "I Do I Do I Do I Do"; "Ring Ring" and "Honey Honey" (covered in the UK by Sweet Dreams, where, staggeringly, singer Polly Brown, previously of Pickettywitch, "blacked up" for the occasion, but I digress...) but the real treats are corkers such as the infuriatingly catchy narrative of "The Day Before You Came", which has you picturing the humdrum life of the Swedish office girl as described in the lyrics; "The Visitors", with its almost Joy Division opening minute or so; the perplexing, insistent "I Am The City"; the beautiful "I Wonder" and the poppy, classic Abba harmonies of "Angel Eyes" and "Cassandra". "When All Is Said And Done" is another lyrical masterpiece and "When I Kissed The Teacher" is a better track than the title makes it sound. Then, of course, there is the obligatory cut from the phase when Abba "went disco" (like The Rolling Stones did on "Miss You", Queen did on "Another One Bites The Dust" and even The Jam on "Precious"). "Abba Gold" gave us "Voulez Vous" and "A Man After Midnight". "More Abba Gold"'s contribution is the intoxicating, Euro-disco thrash of "Summer Night City".

Abba suffered, like Queen, and to a lesser extent, Hot Chocolate, from having their best work released as singles which turned into monster hits, with the result that much of their album work was comparatively ignored, which was a shame. This is a refreshing and thought-provoking listen for all who have heard the other stuff a bit too many times. Most enjoyable.

More ABBA Gold = More ABBA greatness!
I have always listened to ABBA growing up and without a single doubt they are my favourite band. Most (if not all) people think this is strange as I am 17 years old.

I first started listening to all the "classics" such as "The Winner Takes It All", "Super Trouper" etc. I then moved on to their less known stuff. This is exactly that - less known really, but unbelieveable. Some of the songs that are included on this album are amazing - why they were not bigger hits amazes me. Angeleyes, Under Attack, The Day Before You Came and I Am The City are particulary fine. The words mean a lot more in these songs and you can really feel it.

So if you are a keen ABBA fan or a fan that just wants to see the bands more mature side this is the album!!

More of the best pop music
ABBA Gold is one of the 10 most lasting albums in the UK chart history. It sold millions of copies and went platinum in numerous countries. That means that More Gold is a realistic extension and another album really worth buying. There are many, many ABBA compilations out there, but this is the one to buy. It is 11 years old now and contains some less known ABBA tracks and most of them were not issued as singles, but were less than available on CD at that time.
Tracks such as Summer Night City (top 10) and Angeleyes (top 10) should have made the GOLD compilation (although Angeleyes is not a great track), and tracks 3,5,11,14,18 also made the top 40.
As you already know, I Am the City was the only song that was exclusive to this compilation and that alone made this album worth buying (and BTW, the song is extraordinary).
The only irritating and unimportant tracks are Our Last Summer and So Long (for some), otherwise many groups would be jealous to have such records to their disposal.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention Eagle as a song that should have been releases as a single. Such a great track.
