Excellent drive for Video and Media storage
I ordered this drive for a media centre I'm building with my Mac Mini. I decided to buy a drive seperately to the enclosure Allcam USB2 3.5" SATA Hard Drive Enclosure USB 2.0 External Case w/ OneTouck Backup so I could add a fan, making it actively cooled. I've read a few reviews about cheaper all in one drives (e.g. Lacie) that can fry themselves after a while, so thought it best to guard against that.

The drive itself is well over-specced for my requirements I have to say. There's a jumper on it to change from SATA1 to SATA2, to give increased speed, although I'm running it through a USB2 enclosure, so I'm effectively capped at 480Mb-s anyhow. I've left it at the SATA1 setting.

On the Mac I formatted with a journal through Disk Utilities in the Applications folder and was running a few minutes later.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this drive.

Top quality drive that delivers the goods and more
I already had a Seagate 300Gb drive installed in my computer from new and it has proved itself time and time again with top quality reliable use,including a double re format and countless downloads.

I have either been fortunate or Seagate make top quality drives that rarely go wrong.

Download speeds are excellent and the quality of manufacture is second to none.

I purchased this 500Gb to replace a Lacie External drive that gave up the ghost and installation being the more convienient Sata drive variety was simplicity itself.

Formatting took just over the hour and download speed is very impressive as is the 32mb cache.

I donot envisage anything going wrong with this drive and the reason i chose Seagate over the many other makes is that they have given me trouble free service for the past three years,so why change and at this price you would be daft to overlook it.
