very poor
This drive is the worst I've bought or used. Both my PC and laptop struggled to recognise it until I installed the Maxtor software. Even then it was not always visible and failed to back-up more than 12GB before crashing and hanging my PC. I used the included diagnostics and found out that the drive is broken and needs to be returned to Maxtor (actually Seagate who owns Maxtor!).

For a device that is supposed to back-up your computer in case it breaks down it serves no purpose. I've had my PC for 8 years and it's never broken down as quickly or as badly as this drive.

When my replacement comes from Maxtor under warranty it will be on Ebay faster than you can say Western Digital My Passport (which is what I bought next and which runs perfectly!)

I know this is just one case, but when you want to back-up valuable files you need to have a bit of confidence in the product. Maxtor (and seagate) are off my list of trusted manufacturers.
