Based on the best-selling novel from Cecelia Ahern, P.S. I Love You is far more than the standard chick flick that it may first appear to be. Relocating the novel from Ireland to America, multiple Oscar-winner Hilary Swank stars as the young woman who has recently lost her husband. And yet amidst her grief, she discovers a series of letters that he's written to help. These letters give her certain things she has to do, to help her move on with her life.

It's not a completely clean adaptation of the book, and yet P.S. I Love You has more than enough in its tank to qualify as a good, quality bona fide weepy. Swank in particular is a terrific actress, and delivers another worthy performance here. Credit too to Gerard Butler (Phantom Of The Opera, 300) for his work as her late husband.

The film does have a few problems. It meanders a little, and its running time could use a little pruning. Yet nonetheless P.S. I Love You is a well made, engaging drama, and likely to be responsible for a fair bit of blubbing among its target audience by the time the credits roll. Worth a look. --Jon Foster

Good "Girls Night In" Film
The film was great to watch. Several songs were good and it was overall a enchanting film. The only let down was the ending but other then that it was a really good film.

Not as good as the book
I have just watched this movie and must say I was quite disappointed with it overall. I just could not get my head around Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler playing the parts of Holly and Gerry.

There were a few sad parts and I thought Kathy Bates was brilliant. I could not see the relevance of Lisa Kudrow being in it. It seemed a pointless part (but I do like her in other movies or on Friends).

A bit long at 2 hours - thankfully I saw it on my own on DVD and not at the cinema as I think by partner would have hated it.

Blow your nose on this!
Sceptical, sceptical, that's what I was. I never thought I would be able to enjoy a comedy film about heroin addicts, alas I was wrong! Join brother and sister Max and Lisa on this ''far out'' adventure as they scrape through life chasing that illustrious dragon. They both die at the end.

Not all bad
I watched this with my girlfriend and she (like a lot of women I hear) was in floods of tears.

Call me a "typical bloke" if you will, but I was not emotionally drawn into it. I didn't see any chemistry between Swank and Butlers characters so never really bought their relationship. I thought Swanks character had better chemistry with that of Connick Jrs.

Anyhow, it's an ok film with some funny moments - had the casting been a bit better I too may have had a tear in my eye

A good, teary chick flick
I loved this film, seen it twice at cinema. A lot of people found it a little disappointing, but I suppose it really depends on what you are after. It is about a woman who loses her husband to a brain tumour, early on in their lives, and he writes letters to help her move on, little quests if you like. It is moving, and really makes you think about those you love, and if you lost them. I thought the book was by far better than the film, but often, this is the case. The harry potter books are miles better than the film adaptations so there you go. What I liked about this film: gerard butler-is gorgeous, and worth keeping an eye out for. He is a sexy irishmen in this. Hilary Swank is not her best in it, but that could be due to the fact that it is not her usual sort of role. It is a good movie if you want the girlies round, and just need an excuse to crack open that bottle of wine and use them tissues. Get it, and see.
