Meet The Robinsons [2007] - DVD ( - Dir: Stephen Anderson)

Developing positive self-esteem and persevering in the face of difficulties are fundamental parts of growing up, but when 12-year old orphan Lewis (Daniel Hansen and Jordan Fry) can't seem to get adopted or make his inventions work despite repeated efforts, he begins to seriously doubt himself and his abilities as an inventor. A CGI picture by Disney with great animation and a fresh vision of what the future might look like, Meet The Robinsons follows Lewis from his lonesome days at the orphanage to his crushing failure at the school science fair when his newly invented memory scanner won't work. Then, an odd boy named Wilbur Robinson (Wesley Singerman) shows up to warn Lewis about the mysterious "Bowler Hat Guy" (Stephen J Anderson) lurking around the science fair, an evil man Wilbur claims is from the future. The next thing Lewis knows, he and Wilbur are on route to the future via time machine. Once there, Lewis meets the very quirky, extended Robinson family with whom he feels oddly at home. As the search for the Bowler Hat Man and his constant companion Doris (Ethan Sandler) becomes more and more dangerous, the Robinson family becomes crucial in keeping Lewis safe.

In the end, Lewis returns to the present with a whole new inner strength, a sense of his place in the world, the knowledge that his actions directly affect others, and an optimistic determination to "keep moving forward." While comparisons with the Back to the Future films are inevitable, Meet the Robinsons stands apart from its predecessors as its own, thoroughly entertaining family film. --Tami Horiuchi

"Keep moving forward"
"Meet the Robinsons", directed by Stephen Anderson, is an excellent film for kids, and also for the kind of adults that love good animated movies. I am one of them :)

The main character is Lewis, a 12-year old orphan that is a science whiz. Lewis' biggest dream is to have a family of his own, but he hasn't been able to get adopted. When, after a particularly stinging rejection from a prospective family due to an experiment gone wrong, Lewis fails miserably at a science fair, his confidence is crushed and he ready to give up on science. Life has many surprises in store for him, though, among them a trip to the future and tons of new friends, that will teach him that, in order to achieve success, all you really need to do is keep moving forward.

On the whole, I can say that I really liked this quirky and engaging Disney movie. It is a family film with a very good message, that also happens to be lots of fun. Recommended...

not playing on Windows Media Player (notebook)
When I saw this movie at the cinema I absolutely loved it. Now having bought a copy I couldn't wait to watch it again. But to my disappointment, it doesn't work properly on my laptop (I hear everything, but have no picture). This is so frustrating. Does anybody else have the same problem? All other movies I own work perfectly. What can I do to see this movie as well? Thanks for any help.

"90 minutes of your life you will never want to give back!!"
Having just watched this film, and just read the review "90 minutes of your life you will never get back", I can completely say with 100% confidence that this movie is a masterpiece in its own rights.

Besides it being a very intelligent, positive and moving piece by Disney, it is an action packed, feel good family movie filled with laughs along the way.

The twists and turns that bring you closer to the end will bring smiles and tears to your face (which I didn't think would), with the ending hiting the nail on the spot... "Keep moving forward"

A definate must watch!!

Great family movie
My kids persuaded me to watch this and I'm glad i did. I had no expectations, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the storyline more thought-provoking and interesting than some other Disney films and the overall theme "keep moving forward" was a good one.

Not my cup of tea
Meet the Robinsons is not my cup of tea in terms of Disney productions. The animation is outstanding with the ever so increasing format of CGI. The complex storyline with far too many characters and rich furisitic setting is a little incompactible with the Disney concept. The humour is existence at times, but become too dark and sinister which is undesirable for children.

I love Disney as it has a long tradition of promoting family entertainment, but Meet the Robisons fails to justify the point with unnecessary complexity, dark atmosphere and a little abundance in humour. I ended up with a gloomy face watching the production instead of a smiley face if you get what I mean. My motto of Disney films is to entertain viewers which Meet the Robinsons did not do.
