move it 'n' shake it baby!
After selling all my furniture on ebay, I had alot of money in my pocket, so I thought I would treat myself to a cool blue. And boy was it a treat. It grinds peppercorns so effeciently that you could proberly dispose of a body in it. Herbs and spices are crushed, mixed and ground in a way that really brings out the flavour. Ideal for spicing up brocolli, sprouts and various other brassicas. -

More useful than you'd think
You'd think this sort of gadget would be the kind of thing that would just get put in the drawer and never used, but it's actually surprisingly workable. The only real issue with it is that it doesn't grind particularly evenly, but if you want a quick mash-up of a bunch of stuff like herbs, garlic, seeds etc, then it's quite good. -

sorry Jamie but it's a dud
This product has a basic design flaw: a heavy mixing ball in a flimsy plastic shaker, which has the wrong shape for the purpose. The physics are all wrong, in a word. We took good care of ours and followed the instructions but the hinges on the barrel of the plastic shaker broke within weeks of purchase. The design is Kute but Krummy (and I am a fan of Jamie's)! -

A gimmick that is actually useful
At first glance the flavour shaker looks like one of those junk gadgets that you buy and end up never using, however having used mine for a bit I can say it is actually a practical device. It might look odd but it is basically a mortar and pestle but faster and easier to operate. Rather than put your ingredients into a bowl and mash them up, you do the same by placing them in a thick plastic container with a heavy stone ball, sealing it and then shaking vigoursly. The ball flies back and forth and ensures every thing is crushed consistently. It works great with things like peppercorns and whole garlic cloves. Better yet, there is barely any washing up to do since it only has two easy to wash pieces. If I had to criticise the device it would be for the rubber gasket ring that fits between the two plastic halves and stops leakage - I can just see this snapping or falling off. The shaker probably isn't much use either if you have a lot of stuff to make up. But for small amounts it works just fine.
