Dark and Dirty Doings
This is a great novel and not at all what the publicity leads you to believe, which makes it even better.

The cover and blurb leads the reader to expect a piece of campy fluff with a murder motif, but not a bit of it. This is a fairly dark tale for those who like the blackest of humour.

It draws a great deal from gay sensibility, not to mention the subculture in general and then takes it to a fascinating extreme of prostitution, celebrity status and murder.

Johnny is a many faceted character, well-rounded in background and emotionally. It is fun to follow his adventures from theatre school to tv star. A lot of what happens to him, especially in the world of celebrity, seems to be drawn from experience and observation of the real thing.

Catherine is one of those people you would love and dread to meet, and you can see where her side of the story is leading to.

There are some nice turns in the story, though the end is rather well worked out, even, dare I say it, a little latter day Agatha Christie in its neatness of plot.

Not for the squeamish, but a good read.

A page turner
Although Ive always liked Julian Clary, Ive never thought he was brilliant. However, I think as an author he has found his niche!

Murder Most Fab is such an easy and compelling read I got through it in no time - which is saying a lot as Im not a big reader!

The characters really came to life (if indeed a little unbelieveable - Im never sure why authors always have to make their characters super rich, or super famous!?) and the plot was really well thought out. The twists are exemplary, and put him in a league of the greats like Grisham (If indeed a little camper :)).

If you are in 2 minds as to buy it - buy it - you will thank me!

Very pleasantly surprised!!
I really didn't know what to expect form this book, but from the moment I started to read it, I couldn't put it down. It was an easy read, but fantastically written, and the storyline was great. The characters were well defined and easy to relate to, and I really empathised with the main character Johnny (or JD) who was so likeable despite his misdemeaners. Its not a long book (around 350 pages), and not something I would normally read, but I am so glad I did.....would definately recommend!!!

Writing most fab
Very very very very funny! I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book and I certainly didn't get what I thought. However it had to be the funniest book I've read for a while. If this is going to be the standard Julian Clary sets then this is a very talented writer. From the very first sentence you have an idea this is going to be an unusual book!

I genuinely didn't want to put it down. I had to read it over 3 nights and wanted to have read it in one go, it was that enjoyable. The character of Johnny Debonair is fabulous, the problem was though, was that I kept picturing Julian Clary himself. Maybe this wasn't a bad thing as he seemed to describe the character very much like himself.

A laugh a minute but with a sad tale underlying about loneliness and how we exclude ourselves from those around us because we chase what we think are our dreams. Fabulous narrative with well formed characters. You really will be able to visualise all of the characters, even the ones you might not like.

Without any experience of a world like this I just let myself settle in the for the ride. Do the same and you shouldn't be disappointed. I look forward to more fiction from Julian Clary.
