This is a groundbreaking new book on Astrology - Highly recommended!
I love this book for several reasons, the first is that my lovely and talented friend Lisa Tenzin-Dolma wrote this book (Please check out the reviews on her amazing book Understanding The Planetary Myths, if you need outside validation of her talent with astrology - I understand you may think me biased!). Another reason I love this book is that I'm in it! My natal chart is the one that is used as a demonstration of how to interpret your own chart in the book and I found it a wonderfully enlightening experience.
The way Teach Yourself Astrology has been written allows you to delve much deeper into your chart than most astrology books, as the analysis section goes through each house one by one and the focus on each house, its ruler and how the planets interact in your chart is incredibly detailed and acts like a psychological workbook - asking questions and giving positive, practical advice on overcoming challenging aspects. For example, my 7th house is tiny with no planets and in conventional astrology books this area of my chart would be completely ignored. Often I would just assume the relationships and partnerships of my life was a no-go zone, but in fact there is still a lot of useful information to find there through the signs and rulers and it also looks at your potential partner through Venus and Mars placements and aspects. The other sections which I found particularly inspiring was those of career potential. It is incredibly useful with the exercises in the book, which gives it a practical edge you don't find in other astrology books. I am also going though a major stage of personal healing and regeneration (Pluto square Pluto!) at the moment and this book has opened up avenues and ways of thinking that I've not previously thought of and has been hugely beneficial to me at this time. It also includes Chiron interpretations, which are incredibly relevant in my chart - as they are in life!
Teach Yourself Astrology produces a holistic approach to astrology which is wonderfully positive and refreshing. No stone is left unturned and you really can find a much deeper meaning in your chart, that has maybe been overlooked in other astrology books. I love the psychology/self-help approach too - it actually makes you think and question and inspires positive change. Through working with your astrological potential rather than just accepting the cards you've been dealt, it self empowers and motivates you to work with your challenging aspects as well as maximising on your innate talents and natural abilities.
Now, for more information on what is actually in the book. It goes through all the basics - the signs, houses, planets, triplicities, quaduplicities, the moon's nodes, the aspects, aspect patterns, as you would find in any traditional astrology book. For the interpreting your own chart section, it goes through your chart house by house in great detail and this is the section that sets it apart from other astrology books, in my humble opinion. I just love it. If you buddy up Teach Yourself Astrology with Understanding The Planetary Myths it will just expand your whole thinking about astrology and will give you some incredible insights to your own chart, that you may have previously missed.
